Take quilting to the next level in 3 - D with
National Educator
Joan Shay
Joan Shay is an award winning quilter from Cape Cod, Mass. She has developed an exciting, new and easy appliqué technique which she calls “Appli-bond”. Appli-bond is the fusing of 2 or more layers of fabric together with a bonding material. The pieces are attached to the background fabric with various embroidery stitches and the edges remain free creating a sophisticated, realistic 3-D appearance. With this technique you are able to construct flowers, birds, pinecones and butterflies etc., which would be very difficult to achieve with traditional applique. The great surprise is that they are washable and do not loose there shape in the dryer.
Joan has written three books on her new technique, Petal by Petal and Petal Play the Traditional Way and 3 Quilters Celebrate the 4 Seasons published by AQS. Joan has published articles in many magazines and also has an extensive pattern line “Petal Play” utilizing her technique called Appli-bond©.
Joan has taught and lectured extensively at guilds, conferences and shops throughout the country, and has also taught overseas in England, Scotland, Ireland and France. Joan appeared on “Quilting from the Heartland” with Sharlene Jorgenson, Simply Quilts with Alex Anderson, Kaye’s Quilting Friends with Kaye Woods and the American Quilter.
Joan's new technique appeals to beginners and to experts. Beginners have instant success and experts are able to design with this technique. Her lecture features 60+ quilts “in person,” and her classes are not only fun and informative; they are filled with techniques and tips that will inspire your creative spirit.
On this cruise you will learn more about Joan's 3-D Appli-bond technique by creating a realistic dove surrounded by a heart and an olive branch. This quilt will be a lasting momento of your Carribean cruise.
The price for the kit is $35.
